MACS is a week-long educational camp focused on teaching students the basics of computer programming
The camp is funded by the US National Science Foundation. The camp is focused on experiential learning and includes a mix of curricular and extra-curricular activities. The camp is targeted primarily for students from the Lincoln Middle School in Fort Collins, CO.
CSU graduate and undergraduate students serve as MACS instructors. The MACS camp will have a high instructor to student ratio allowing for intensive help, explanation, and interaction.
The goal of the camp is to use hands-on training to show middle school students how concepts they are learning in school are applied to real-world problems in computer science and elsewhere. Engaging middle school students improves their foundation in the STEM subjects at a critical point in their education. Experiential learning and practical application clarifies the material and fuels interest in these subjects.
